First of all, I would like to take the opportunity to tell you that I am very excited about beginning a new school year, and I hope your teenager is also. Whether he/she is a junior who is moving up through the ranks or a senior facing the last year of high school, this year will prove to be both personally and academically rewarding. These years in high school are incredibly important years - years that truly help to prepare them for their post-secondary life.
The eleventh grade is an awesome learning year for your child; this year is when students prepare for the all-important SAT. Getting ready for this test, studying diverse American literature, and honing formal writing skills will be emphasized this year; however, they will also have long-term projects, out-of-class reading assignments, and collaborative learning opportunities.
The twelfth grade is also an amazing learning year. Students are getting ready to leave the proverbial nest - to college, to trade or technical school, to the military, or to the role of a full-time member of the work force. Whatever a student chooses to do, reading fluency and comprehension, writing expertise, and language skills are all very important to his/her future endeavors. As such, the senior year of high school is the year spent preparing for the all-important leap into the adult world.
To make sure that parents and students have a clear understanding of the assigned course and its expectations, several areas of my classroom webpage will be the first required reading assignment. To fulfill this requirement, please click on the link below and complete the required reading indicated on the form. After the reading is completed, please submit the form. This measure is to help ensure that there will be no confusion or misunderstanding as we go through the school year. Students will be given a grade for completing this first homework assignment, which is due by next Monday. I look forward to sharing a successful year with your son/daughter, and I look forward to working together with you to facilitate this success. In fact, an additional way to help ensure student success is to thoroughly peruse this site (not just the required pages), as it will be very helpful throughout the year with various assignments. Additionally, since we are generally a paperless classroom, all texts for the class can be found here, and a majority of assignments and tests will be disseminated through Google Classroom.
Please feel free to contact me at 939-3455 or at [email protected]. My planning period is posted under MY SCHEDULE elsewhere on this webpage; however, I shall also make arrangements to be available at other times that are mutually convenient - if my planning period does not fit into your schedule.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
